Simple but effective goal setting

Goal setting can be a bit baffling. Here is a really easy grid to help outline and assess any goal. I have added an example so you can see how it can be filled out.

My Short Term Goal

To drop from a size 18 to size 16


4 weeks

How important is this goal to me on a scale of 1 -10

Things I will do to help achieve my goal

Go for a 20 minute walk 5 days each week

How achieving the goal will help me  

I will be getting in to the habit of regular exercise

I will have time out for myself

I will get some fresh air which will help me sleep

Possible obstacles to overcome

The weather

Lack of time due to work

Ways I can deal with obstacles

Dig out my waterproof jacket and wellies

Get up 20 minutes earlier on busy days

Walk at weekends


This simple grid helps us focus on a clear goal and pin point how we will achieve it. Have a go, see if it helps but remember if starting out keep the goal small and simple – too big and we get overwhelmed and find it hard to keep going.
